Tehran, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says the United States and Israel conducted an act of aggression on Iran, emphasizing that the United Nations must officially recognize the aggressor and hold it to account.

Baqaei made the remark on Monday during a weekly press briefing in Tehran.

"What happened was an act of aggression with all its characteristics, based on international law and the United Nations Charter. Our main demand from international bodies, especially the United Nations, is that the aggressor be officially recognized. The United Nations Security Council must confirm this and take the necessary measures to hold the Zionist regime and the United States accountable," he told reporters.

Europe's stance on Israeli aggression

The spokesperson also said that the stances of Europe, especially those by Germany and France regarding the Israeli regime's aggression against Iran, were not acceptable.

He particularly criticized German officials for describing the Israeli aggression as a "dirty job," saying that the position marks a historic shame for the European country.

I.A.E.A. obligations

According to the Iranian official, the International Atomic Energy Agency (I.A.E.A.) has clear technical responsibilities, which must be conducted without being influenced politically.

Tehran expects the I.A.E.A. and its director general to comply with their obligations away from political maneuvering, Baqaei said. However, he added, issues concerning the agency's performance must not distract the world from the illegal action of the United States and the Israeli regime in attacking Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities.

Trump's insulting comments

The Iranian diplomat referred to U.S. President Donald Trump's insulting comments about Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his threats against the Iranian nation.

Baqaei said that such provocative statements have hurt the feelings of millions of Iranians and Muslims in the region and will result in increasing hatred and disgust toward the policies of the United States.

E3 talks

The spokesperson said that Iran has conventional diplomatic relations with three European states of the 2015 nuclear deal, namely Britain, France, and Germany, which are known as E3. However, he added, no date has yet been set for the next round of negotiations with the group.

The last round of talks between Iran and E3 were held on June 20.

No neighbor allows airspace for use against Iran

Asked about the Israeli regime's misuse of Iran's neighboring states' airspace to attack the country, Baqaei said that Tehran shared information and speculations with the neighbors, adding that these countries are aware of their responsibilities and commitments, as well as good neighborliness and international rights. All neighboring nations assured Islamic Republic Iran that they would not allow the regime to use their airspace to attack Iran, he further said.

Documenting Israeli atrocities

Baqaei said that Iranian authorities started conducting correspondence with the U.N. Security Council and human rights organizations since the first day of the Israeli war of aggression. So far, they have written at least 10 letters to U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres, he said, adding that the Islamic Republic will continue to pursue documenting the atrocities of the regime's crimes.

In that context, he further said, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology documented cases of assaults on Iranian universities, professors and scientific elites, which have been sent to the United Nations cultural agency, UNESCO.

U.S. betrayed diplomacy

Israel launched its aggression against Iran with the U.S. complicity Baqaei said, adding that Washington betrayed diplomacy and a diplomatic process as the aggression took place in the midst of talks with Iran.

"It cannot be expected that this incident does not affect the continuation of the talks," he added.

He also said that the U.S. has constantly changed its stances toward Iran over the past several months, and therefore it is not trustworthy and reliable.

Cooperation with I.A.E.A.

Further in his presser, the spokesperson said that the newly ratified law by Parliament, which calls for suspending cooperation with the I.A.E.A. following U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, is binding for the Iranian administration.

Reacting to a demand by the I.A.E.A.'s chief Rafael Grossi that Iran continues its usual cooperation with the agency, Baqaei said how it can be expected that Iran provides security for I.A.E.A. inspects while the country's peaceful nuclear facilities were attacked just a few days ago.

Iran armed forces fully prepared

The Iranian Armed Forces have demonstrated in the past weeks that they are fully ready to protect the country, which is the most important deterrence to prevent the repetition of adventurism by the Israeli regime and others, the spokesperson said.

France's role in aggression against Iran

Baqaei said that France's confession of its involvement in the Israeli regime's aggression, through impeding the upholding of Iran's right to legitimate self-defense, indicates the French government's taking responsibility as a party in the imposed war on Iran.

He made the remark as he commented on France's move to intercept Iranian drones fired toward Israel during the recent 12-day imposed war, emphasizing that France should be accountable.

Arrest of Iranian nationals in the U.S.

In response to a report by Fox News that 670 Iranian nationals are in detention of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Baqaei said that the detentions clearly contradict human rights standards. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pursuing this issue through the Iranian Interests Section in Washington.

Warning against normalization of crimes

Baqaei also urged the international community to adopt a serious stance in the face of the Israeli regime's atrocities in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and other countries, warning that the normalization of crimes would pave the way for their repetition.

'Snapback mechanism'

He reacted to certain Western officials' threats regarding the use of the "snapback mechanism" against Iran, saying that the Islamic Republic will never succumb to irrational demands and pressure, and that negotiations based on such an approach are meaningless. The mechanism, which is included in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, would restore U.N. sanctions against Iran, once it is activated.

Security of embassies

The spokesperson said that Iran will take the necessary measures to ensure the security of foreign missions and embassies. He said that some foreign diplomats would return to Iran in the coming days.

Iran's rights under N.P.T.

Iran will not abandon its rights in accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (N.P.T.), he said, adding that Iran is a member of the treaty and it is entitled to exercise its right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Azerbaijan-Armenia peace deal

According to the spokesperson, Iran welcomes a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Islamic Republic has good relationships with both neighboring countries and abides by the continuation of the neighborliness policy, he said.
