"We hope the ceasefire could hold and be abided by faithfully by all parties. No more deceptions this time," said Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, on Tuesday local time ahead of a related UN Security Council meeting regarding the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel.

US President Donald Trump announced Monday that Israel and Iran have reached a formal agreement to implement a complete and total ceasefire, marking what he called the end of the "12-Day War," Xinhua News Agency reported.

But hours after a ceasefire plan was announced, Trump accused both Israel and Iran of violating it, according to multiple media reports.

Trump told reporters that he thinks both sides "violated it [the ceasefire deal," Al Jazeera reported. But Trump said he is especially displeased with Israel, which "dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I've never seen" right after agreeing to a truce, according to Al Jazeera.

Commenting on the ceasefire reached between Israel and Iran as announced by Trump, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that China is watching closely the developments in the Middle East. We do not want to see the spiraling up of tensions, and hope that a ceasefire can be realized as early as possible, Guo said.
