In response to a question that foreign ministers of 21 Arab, Islamic and African countries issued a joint statement on Israel-Iran conflict, calling for respect of other country's national sovereignty, territorial integrity and principles of good neighborliness and peaceful resolution of dispute, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday that Israel's attack on Iran has sharply escalated regional tensions, drawing grave concern from the international community. The immediate priority is to cease hostilities, take effective measures to prevent further escalation, and avert greater instability in the region, Guo remarked.
Returning to dialogue and negotiations for a political settlement reflects the broad consensus of the international community, Guo stated at a regular press conference on Tuesday.
"China welcomes the joint statement by Arab and Islamic countries, including Egypt, and commends their efforts to de-escalate the situation. China stands ready to maintain communication with all relevant parties and play a constructive role in easing tensions," said Guo.
