Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on Sunday local time, killing and wounding civilians and raising concerns of a broader regional conflict, with both militaries urging civilians on the opposing side to take precautions against further strikes, Reuters reported.

Iran launched a new barrage at Israel on Sunday evening local time, with an explosion seen in the coastal city of Haifa. Israel said it began another series of strikes on military targets across Iran amid international pleas for diplomacy and de-escalation, CNN reported on Monday.

On Sunday evening local time, there were explosions in the sky above Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as Israel's defense system shot down missiles fired from Iran. Israel said its strikes had hit dozens of targets in Tehran, BBC reported.

Iran said Israel struck its oil refineries, killed the intelligence chief of its paramilitary Revolutionary Guard and two other generals and hit population centers in intensive aerial attacks that raised the death toll in the country since Israel launched its major campaign Friday to 224 people. Health authorities also reported that 1,277 were wounded, without distinguishing between military officials and civilians, AP reported.

Israel, which has aimed its missiles at Iran's rapidly advancing nuclear program and military leadership, said Iran has fired over 270 missiles since Friday, 22 of which slipped through the country's sophisticated multi-tiered air defenses and caused havoc in residential suburbs, killing 14 people and wounding 390 others, according to AP.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he hoped a meeting of the Group of Seven leaders in Canada on Sunday local time would reach an agreement to help resolve the conflict and keep it from escalating, Reuters reported.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday local time as he prepared to leave for the G7 summit in Canada that he wants to see a deal reached between Israel and Iran and that he believes "there's a good chance" of that happening, CNN reported.

Asked how he plans to de-escalate the intensifying conflict between the two nations, Trump said, "I hope there's going to be a deal. I think it's time for deal and we'll see what happens, but sometimes they have to fight it out."

Iran has told mediators Qatar and Oman that it is not open to negotiating a ceasefire with the US while it is under Israeli attack, an official briefed on the communications told Reuters on Sunday local time.

Israel's military, which launched the attacks on Friday with the stated aim of wiping out Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs, said Israel's air force attacked surface-to-surface missile sites in central Iran, according to Reuters.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday local time that Iran would pay a "very heavy price" for targeting Israeli civilians as he visited the site of an early-morning Iranian missile strike on a Bat Yam apartment building that killed seven people and wounded over 100 more, The Times of Israel reported.
