Iran welcomes negotiations on the removal of Western sanctions on the country over its nuclear work but insists on retaining its atomic independence and its fuel cycle and enrichment capabilities, according to the top Iranian security official.
Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks on Wednesday at the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in Moscow, in a speech focused on shaping an equal and sustainable security architecture.
The official criticized the West's hegemonic policies worldwide, saying that dominant countries, by using tools such as sanctions and technology, try to deprive nations of their inherent rights, as exemplified in their push to restrict Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The official said unilateralism in international politics and the imposition of the will of arrogant powers on nations have created countless tragedies worldwide, and today the West Asia region stands as a showcase of these atrocities.
Ahmadian, referring to the bitter events in Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, said, "the foundation of the Western policy of unilateralism is built on the oppression and exploitation of nations, and the whole world is witnessing an unprecedented crime in Gaza, where, in addition to inhumane killings, women and children are enduring a gradual death by starvation."
Ahmadian said that international political and security structures have been held hostage by the West and dominant powers, while from the perspective of Iran, security should serve the people and uphold the independence and freedom of nations.
He advocated a "new global security architecture" that provides everybody with fair opportunities.
"A comprehensive security umbrella across the world requires multilateralism, and in the new security order, nations must be provided with fair and equal opportunities," he said, adding that moving towards a multipolar system will bring peace and justice to all nations.
The main session of the 13th International Conference of Senior Security Officials, attended by delegations from over one hundred countries, including Iran, began on Wednesday with the broadcast of a video message from Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
According to Sergey Shuygo, secretary of the Russian Security Council, 126 high-ranking delegations from 104 countries participated in the conference.
These delegations included the heads of security councils, assistants and advisors to the heads of state on national security affairs, ministers, heads of special services, as well as 13 secretaries-general and representatives of heads of international organizations.
