Security forces in West Azerbaijan Province have intercepted and seized a major shipment of explosives and weapons belonging to counter-revolution groups.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Hamzeh Seyyed al‑Shohada Base of the IRGC Ground Forces, the operation was carried out in the border region of Urmia County following extensive intelligence monitoring and complex technical measures by the IRGC Intelligence Organization.

The confiscated cargo included significant quantities of explosives, firearms, and military ammunition, most notably 198 explosive devices.

Officials said the shipment was discovered while being transferred into the country, adding that the armed groups and terrorist elements intended to move the materials deeper into the country to carry out acts of sabotage and create insecurity.

Security officials said the vigilance and timely action of intelligence units foiled the plot.

Iranian forces frequently engage in clashes with foreign-backed terrorist outfits or carry out operations against them near the country's western and eastern borders.

On October 26, 2024, a terrorist attack in the Gohar Kuh district of Taftan County, Sistan and Baluchestan, claimed the lives of 10 members of Iran's law enforcement forces.

The so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group took responsibility for the attack, which is marked as one of the most deadly incidents in the province in recent months.

The group has conducted numerous terrorist attacks across Iran, primarily focusing on Sistan and Baluchestan Province. Its methods include abducting border guards and launching assaults on civilians and police stations, aiming to incite chaos.
