Iran's Judiciary chief has instructed the Attorney General to pursue Washington's accountability for Israel's blatant aggression against the Islamic Republic in June, following US President Donald Trump's recent admission of a direct role in the illegal assault.
Speaking on Monday, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Eje elaborated on the legal dimensions and consequences of Trump's confession to his involvement in June's terrorist aggression against Iran.
"The US president once again explicitly confessed to committing crimes against Iran and the Iranian people, stating that he was personally and directly involved in ... the 12‑day war. This clear and unequivocal confession carries significant consequences from the perspective of legal and criminal rules and provisions of international law," he added.
"Therefore, the Attorney General and the Judiciary's deputy director for international affairs should prepare arrangements to investigate this crime in both international and domestic courts."
Mohseni-Eje also emphasized that confession is one of the most well‑documented grounds for proving a crime.
On November 6, Trump acknowledged that he was "very much in charge of" the assault against Iran.
Earlier this week, the Iranian Foreign Minister sent a letter to the UN chief and the Security Council president, saying Trump's confession proves Washington's direct role in the crime of aggression.
He further condemned the deadly act of aggression against Iran as a flagrant violation of the principles of the UN Charter and the fundamental rules of international law.
The US and the Zionist regime committed war crimes through attacking Iranian citizens, including women and children, scientists, university professors, journalists, and prisoners, and deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure such as hospitals, the national broadcasting center, a prison, and peaceful nuclear facilities, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Araghchi reiterated Iran's inherent right to use all legal channels to bring to justice those responsible for the aggression and seek compensation for the damages incurred.
He also urged the UN to take appropriate measures aimed at holding the US and the occupying regime accountable for their flagrant violations.
Israel launched the unprovoked aggression against Iran on June 13, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the terrorist aggression.
