Top security official calls on Iranian nation to resist 'endless' US demands

Tehran, IRNA -- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani says the enemy's main goal, by setting unacceptable and impossible conditions in negotiations, has been to break the will of the Iranian nation.

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with humanities scholars in Tehran on Sunday, saying the enemy's demands are "endless" and require a "national resistance."

"They say that you should not have nuclear enrichment, long-range missiles, and implement in the region what we say," he referred to demands put forth by the United States and its Western allies.

"They are opportunists," Larijani added, arguing that the same countries that are opposed to Iran's uranium enrichment had earlier concluded that it could enrich.

On the issue of negotiations with the United States, the top security official said Iran is not against negotiations, but wants "real" talks, pointing to the US-backed Israeli war of aggression in the midst of the nuclear talks earlier this year.

Israel launched an unprovoked war on Iran, just three days before the sixth round of talks between Tehran and Washington had been scheduled in June. The US itself joined the war by attacking several Iranian nuclear facilities in violation of international law and the UN Charter.

Rejecting the US pressure tactic against Iran, Larijani said that Washington is following a similar stance on Hezbollah as its envoy to Lebanon, Thomas Barrack, issued a 60-day deadline for disarmament of the resistance movement and recently threatened it would otherwise face further Israeli attacks.
