A senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says independence, stability, and progress of Iraq have always been very important for Iran.

Ali Akbar Velayati, who advises the Leader on international affairs, made the remarks in a Sunday meeting with senior Iraqi Shia cleric and head of the National Wisdom Movement, Seyyed Ammar Hakim, who is on an official visit to Tehran.

Velayati said the Iranian and Iraqi nations have historical and cultural bonds which are based on "religious and cultural commonalities and good neighborliness."

Iran is confident that Iraq will be able to achieve "greater successes" in the future by relying on religious authority and promoting cooperation among the country's leaders, he added.

Hakim, for his part, said the powerful leadership of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the presence of the Armed Forces, national solidarity, and support of the Iranian nation for the Islamic establishment during the 12-day Israeli-US war displayed an important and influential image of Iran to the world.

During the war, he added, Iran proved its high capabilities and was the first country to target Israel and shatter its hollow power after 76 years.

Hakim and Velayati also discussed the latest developments in the region, including the Israeli regime's moves, and stressed the need to reinforce solidarity among Muslim countries in the face of external threats.

They called for the improvement of Tehran-Baghdad cooperation at various levels.

On June 13, the Israeli regime launched an unlawful aggression against Iran, leading to the assassination of many senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens.

Iran retaliated in less than 24 hours with a barrage of missiles and drones, and followed it up with a series of retaliatory operations under True Promise III.

The US entered the war on behalf of Israel on June 22, when its bombers hit three Iranian nuclear sites in brazen violation of international law.

In response, Iran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military air base in West Asia, in an act of self-defense.

The embattled Israeli regime was forced to unilaterally accept a truce deal on June 24.

Hakim calls for enhanced security cooperation with Iran

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday, Hakim hailed Iran's defense against the Israeli regime during the 12-day aggression and said the Islamic Republic is the absolute winner of the war.

He added that all countries are now aware of Iran's power.

The senior Iraqi official called for the continuation of security cooperation with Iran and the implementation of a security agreement between the two countries.

He stressed the importance of proceeding with political and diplomatic interaction between the two countries to promote stability in the region.

Hakim arrived in Tehran on Saturday to hold talks with Iranian authorities. He also met with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani and Head of the Expediency Council Sadeq Amoli Larijani.
