On August 22, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, at the Iranian side's initiative.
The Iranian Foreign Minister briefed Sergey Lavrov on the outcomes of his recent telephone discussions with his colleagues from Great Britain, Germany, and France concerning the settlement of issues around the Iranian nuclear programme.
The Russian side reaffirmed its commitment to continued significant diplomatic efforts aimed at normalising the situation around the JCPOA and de-escalating tensions in the Middle East. The parties exchanged views on a number of other pressing regional issues of mutual interest.
The discussion also covered priority items on the bilateral agenda. These included the implementation of the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, signed by the presidents on January 17, 2025, and the agreements reached on expanding cooperation in the transport and energy sectors. Both sides expressed a mutual commitment to maintaining a trust-based political dialogue and enhancing coordination between their diplomatic services.
The schedule of upcoming contacts at various levels, primarily at the highest level, was also discussed.
