Tehran, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran plans to revise its relations with Belarus to a strategic partnership.

Speaking to an IRIB reporter on the sidelines of President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Belarus on Wednesday, Araghchi announced plans to revise the comprehensive cooperation roadmap previously signed by the two countries.

"We have agreed to begin revising the documents signed in 2006, which remain valid until 2026," he said, noting that the move would elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

In 2023, Iran and Belarus signed an updated cooperation roadmap, along with seven additional agreements covering sectors such as commerce, transportation, agriculture, and culture.

President Pezeshkian, who is in Minsk on an official visit at the invitation of his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, called for expanding cooperation "at the highest possible level" during a joint press conference.

Pezeshkian, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is on the second leg of his regional tour. He arrived in Minsk following a two-day visit to the Republic of Armenia.
