At least one policeman and three terrorists have been killed in armed clashes in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

The clashes took place on Sunday, when several terrorists attempted to enter a police station in the city of Saravan, but they received a crushing response from the Iranian forces.

The police officer killed in the attack was identified as Khodadad Baqeri, a father of four.

Sistan and Baluchestan Police Chief Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Es'haqi said his forces killed 3 armed bandits, arrested four others, and seized two vehicles belonging to them, as well as a Kalashnikov rifle and a handgun with related ammunition.

"The police has stood firmly against the malicious acts of traitorous bandits and will spare no efforts in ensuring the security of the people," he added.

Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been the site of frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and Takfiri terrorists as well as drug traffickers.

Iranian forces have protected the border and managed to repel almost all assaults by foreign-backed terrorists.

The so-called Jaish al-Adl, based in Pakistan, has claimed responsibility for several terror attacks targeting both civilians and security forces in recent years in Sistan and Baluchestan.
