Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Mehdi Safari announced that Iran has already submitted its bid to join the BRICS Bank.

Stressing that one of the most important priorities of Iranian Foreign Ministry in the 13th government is the expansion of interaction with neighboring countries, he said, "At the same time, we have also tried to expand our relations with countries in Africa, Latin America, East Asia and other parts of the world".

Pointing to Iran's increasing trade relations with Eurasian countries, Safari noted, "In line with more serious presence of Iran in regional organizations, we have joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and recently, as announced, our request for membership in BRICS has been approved, which I think is a big step".

Emphasizing that Iran pays special attention to expanding economic and trade interactions alongside political and security issues, the official said, "With the acceptance of new members in BRICS, the globalization of this group has increased and now some countries are waiting to join this organization. The more members this group has, the more its global dimension increases".

The deputy foreign minister further said that, "We have invited the head of BRICS Bank to come to Tehran in order to advance the process of Iran's membership in the bank during her trip".

He added, "BRICS Bank is like the bank of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and we can benefit from financial concessions. Let's use it and use these financial resources to advance our projects".

"Due to the resumption of relations with Saudi Arabia, our relations with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have also been facilitated and we can use the Islamic Conference Bank," he also said.
