Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and the EU Foreign Policy Chief, Josep Borrell held a phone conversation, discussing some topics of mutual interest, including the Niger crisis, the Ukraine war, the relations between Iran and the EU, as well as the removal of sanctions.
Pointing to the latest state of Iran's regional relations, Amir-Abdollahian evaluated these developments as positive.
Considering the recent release of Iranian freezed assets in South Korea as a positive development, the Iranian top diplomat said that in the case of the other parties' serious will, the return to agreement and their commitments is within reach.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian referred to the cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and said, "Now both sides are on the right path of cooperation".
Criticizing the EU's non-constructive approach toward the continuation of the ineffective policy of sanctions, the Iranian foreign minister stated, "Sanctions are an unfriendly measure in the relations between Iran and Europe. The continuation of the current situation is not in the Europe's interest".
Expressing concerns about the Niger crisis, Amir-Abdollahian said, "We are closely following the developments in this country. We emphasized the importance of preserving the rule of law in Niger and, definitely the need for avoiding any military intervention. In the meantime, we consider the imposition of sanctions on Niger to be a factor for deteriorating the people's problems".
Regarding the Ukraine war, Amir-Abdollahian said, "The only solution for ending this war is a political resolution and the accusation of using Iranian drone against Ukraine is completely baseless. Ukraine has not provided us with any reliable proof for this claim".
