Tehran (ISNA) - Stressing that the resumption of bilateral relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia is a successful act based on the Global Security Initiative, Chinese ambassador to Iran Chang Hua announced that Beijing supports Iran's bid to join the BRICS group of emerging economies, although other members also need to agree on this issue.

In an interview with ISNA, the ambassador mentioned China's continued role in resolving regional issues such as the resumption of Iran-Saudi Arabia relations, saying, "China enjoy good relations with all countries in the region. Last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Saudi Arabia and earlier this year, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visited China".

"The leaders of Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia have discussed peace and security in the region, and Iranian and Saudi officials have expressed their desire to revive bilateral ties and maintain peace and stability in the region, which china is pleased about," he added.

Mentioning that foreign ministers of Iran, China and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement, Chang Hua emphasized, "From our point of view, this is a success for peace and dialog, and we witnessed a breeze of peace in the region in the wake of the restoration of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia".

"Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Security Initiative, which seeks to help resolve disputes through dialogue. In fact, the revival of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia is a successful act based on the initiative. China is willing to follow this initiative to improve peace and stability in the region," he also added.

When asked if China will continue its policy of supporting countries like Iran in joining organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Chang Hua said, "Definitely, Beijing also supports Iran's bid to join the BRICS group of emerging economies, although other members also need to agree on this issue".
