Iran sees no obstacles for deepening ties with neighbouring countries: President Raisi

Tehran (ISNA) - Emphasizing the need to prepare a roadmap to develop cooperation and implement the understandings between Iran and Uzbekistan, President Ebrahim Raisi said that Iran's successful presence at the international industrial exhibition in Tashkent is a sign of Iran's serious determination to develop economic and trade relations with the country.

Speaking in the meeting of the high-ranking delegations of the two countries during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Iran, President Ebrahim Raisi described the relations between Iran and Uzbekistan as historical and civilizational, and referring to the capacities in order to develop cooperation between the two countries, calling this trip and important step in deepening relations between Iran and Uzbekistan.

Following the visit of his Uzbek counterpart to Iran after 20 years, the President praised the goal of doubling trade exchanges in the first step and planning to increase its volume to $3 billion, referring to the agreements between the two countries for preferential trade.

Emphasizing the need to prepare a roadmap to develop cooperation and implement the understandings between Iran and Uzbekistan, the President said that Iran's successful presence at the international industrial exhibition in Tashkent is a sign of Iran's serious determination to develop economic and trade relations with the country.

Stating that Uzbekistan's progress will be source of happiness for Iran, the President emphasized on following up the agreements made between the two countries in the fields of economy and trade, transportation and transit, science and technology, agriculture, medical and pharmaceutical equipment in order to develop relations and exchange of capacities.

Saying that Iran has turned threats and sanctions into opportunities for progress, president Raisi emphasized Iran's readiness to transfer experiences in various scientific and economic fields to Uzbekistan.

President Raisi also stated that Iran does not see any obstacles in the path of developing relations with neighbouring countries and considered the development of relations between Iran and Uzbekistan to benefit the two nations and make the two countries stronger.

In this meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the long 20-year gap to visit Iran was caused by the lack of attention and neglect by previous officials to use the capacities of the two countries.

He also emphasised the country's interest in development relations with Iran in science, technology, transportation, energy infrastructure, medicine and agriculture.
