Shiraz, IRNA -- An Iranian deputy minister of defense has described the home-grown Dena destroyer as a symbol of the technical and scientific capability of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking with reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, Manouchehr Alipour said the Dena destroyer made history last week after completing a historic mission in international waters.
Alipour said Dena is a fully home-made destroyer that has been built in six years.
Today, Iran is self-sufficient in producing different types of marine grade stainless steel, the official said.
Iranian Army's 86th flotilla comprising Dena, a warship equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles, torpedoes, and naval cannons, and Makran, a major base ship, returned home a few days ago after successfully completing a circumnavigation mission which was a first in the country's history.
