Iran's top priority in foreign policy to establish ties with neighboring, regional countries: Ghalibaf

Tehran (ISNA) - Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed the need for parliamentary cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan.
He made the remarks in a meeting with the Parliament Speaker of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov, who arrived in Tehran on Friday night at the head of a parliamentary delegation.
During the meeting, Ghalibaf said, "The top priority of the Iranian parliament in foreign policy is to establish relations with neighboring and regional countries, especially Islamic countries".
"In Central Asia, Uzbekistan with its high population provides excellent opportunities for collaboration in various fields such as economics, transportation, and transit," he went on to say.
Pointing to his previous visit to Tashkent, Ghalibaf said, "Last year, detailed negotiations were held in Tashkent between the two countries' officials and after that Iranian president paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. This month, the President of Uzbekistan will visit Iran to further expand relations, especially in the areas of economics, transportation, and cultural development".
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ghalibaf also emphasized the need for serious cooperation between neighboring countries to help Afghanistan achieve stability and development.
