New York, IRNA -- Pursuing Washington's dual policies, the US Department of Treasury has announced sanctions against the intelligence service of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), accusing it of hostage-taking and illegal detention of US citizens.
On Thursday, April 27, the Foreign Assets Office of the US Treasury Department announced that four high-ranking commanders of the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC will be sanctioned.
The Treasury claimed that IRGC's intelligence service had been sanctioned due to its role in illegal hostage-taking of US citizens traveling to Iran.
It claimed that the organization, in addition to its direct role in suppressing the demonstrators in recent unrest in Iran, had also arrested a large number of protesters, including dual national citizens.
The Treasury said that IRGC commanders Ruhollah Bazqandi, Mohammad Kazemi, Mohammad-Mahdi Sayyari, and Mohammad-Hassan Mohaqqeqi, had been added to the US sanctions list.
