Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani stressed, following the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi's recent visit to Tehran, a new chapter was opened in bilateral cooperation between Iran and the Agency.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani said, "We expect that the IAEA to fulfill its responsibilities and obligations in defending and protecting the rights of its members".
"Iran has utilized all political and legal rights to maintain its rights when it comes to its cooperation with the IAEA," he added.
"Following Grossi's recent visit to Tehran, a new chapter was opened in bilateral cooperation between Iran and the IAEA. Considering the visit of Grossi to Tehran and the high-level negotiations that took place and the understandings that were reached between the Agency and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, it is expected that the process of the meeting of the Council of Governors will proceed within its technical framework without being politicized," the spokesman went on to say.
"During the visit, it was agreed that the IAEA technical delegation will travel to Tehran,"Kanaani announced.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that the collapse of interactions between Iran and Europe is not merely harmful for Iran, also it hurts European countries as Iran is an important country in the region, while emphasizing, "Iran respects de-escalation and this is a bilateral path. We hope that all parties consider a constructive approach towards the cooperation with Iran".
"We also hope that European countries do not get involved with the US administration and the Zionist regime. In fact, they should have an independent policy about Iran," he added.
When asked about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the red lines of Iran regarding the sanction removal talks, Kanaani said, "The temporary agreement is not acceptable for Iran. We need to return back to the document signed in 2015. Moreover, the Islamic Republic of Iran's red lines are national benefits and legal rights of Iranians to use nuclear energy peacefully. The next red line is removing sanctions and Iran gains economic benefits. Also, peaceful nuclear operations of Iran as a member of the Agency and NPT should be secured".
In an answer to the question whether Iranian deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Ali Bagheri consults with the Western sides in case of sanction removal talks, Nasser Kanaani noted, "Although the negotiations are not public and official, the messages are being conveyed through diplomatic channels between Iran and the US".
He said of a claim made by the former US special envoy for Afghanistan's reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad "Iran Is New Center of Al-Qaeda," the promoters of Al-Qaeda and its supporters who have been committed crimes for years in Afghanistan, are just projecting their thoughts and making false claims against Iran.
