Iran, Russia emphasizes necessity of continuing cooperation with independent nations to fight against unilateralism

Tehran (ISNA) - Russian deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, who is visiting Tehran for consultations over issues of mutual interest, has met with Ali Bagheri the Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs.

The two deputy foreign ministers discussed a broad range of regional and international issues including the developments in Ukraine, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Afghanistan and Syria.

Bagheri and Grushko also held talks over cooperation between Tehran and Moscow at regional and international bodies.

The Russian deputy foreign minister highlighted the importance of multilateralism in the world and stressed the need to expand cooperation among independent nations.

Grushko also slammed Western governments for abusing such concepts as freedom, democracy and human rights and underlined the need for the rule of law in interactions between world countries.

Bagheri also described cooperation between Iran and Russia over regional and international issues of mutual interest as highly important. He said it is necessary that Iran and Russia boost their interactions for the purpose of establishing peace and stability in the region and also the establishment of multilateralism.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister for political affairs further stressed the necessity of both sides continuing their cooperation with independent nations in order to realize their national interests and fight against discriminatory and unilateral approaches.
