
Iran Ministry of Defense to increase women recruitment

Tehran, IRNA -- Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics plans to recruit female staff in the ministry in a greater number, an official said.
Deputy Minister of Defense for human resources affairs Saeed Sadeghi said on Saturday that following ratification of a new law on recruitment of female personnel in the Ministry of Defense, we will witness the hike of percentage of women in this ministry.
Given the fact that more than 50 percent of the academic community in Iran are women and the gender of people cannot be considered as an obstacle in the way of conducting sophisticated and sensitive defense projects, the recruitment of more female staff in units of the Defense Ministry would be facilitated, the official noted.
Referring to the epic contribution of the Iranian women to various historical events, he said that the endeavors of the Iranian women were made at individual level prior to the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and that their role and position in independent organizations or in providing a complement role to enhance sovereignty of the land were not highlighted.
The glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran has paved the way for the Iranian women to play a key role in the development of the country in scientific, cultural, political, sports and social affairs, he said, noting that the women played significant role in the victory of the Islamic Republic as well as in the eight-year war against the Ba'athist regime of Saddam Hussein.
The Iranian women's success in wining awards in astronomy, physics and mathematics Olympiads as well as in different sport events proves the fact that the Islamic Republic has provided the women with the opportunity to improve their capabilities, the military official went on to say.
