Iran's ties with Iraq top-tier: President Raisi

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian President stated, "The relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq are different and top-tier, and the strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations should lead to the development and improvement of the level of regional and international interactions in order to establish as much peace and stability in the region and the world as possible".

In a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi expressed satisfaction with the political stability and the formation of the new Iraqi government and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran always welcomes and supports a united nation and a strong government in Iraq".

Emphasising Iran's determination to development cooperation and improve the level of relations with Iraq in the economic, commercial, political, cultural and security fields, the President added, "Iran seeks to develop exchanges with Iraq in various commercial and energy fields, and holding regular meetings of the Cooperation Commission of the two countries can play an effective role in realising this goal".

The President stated, "The relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq are different and top-tier, and the strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations should lead to the development and improvement of the level of regional and international interactions in order to establish as much peace and stability in the region and the world as possible".

In this meeting, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani also expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Iran, one month after the formation of the new government in the country, and stated, "Iran has a privileged and excellent position in the field of Iraq's foreign relations, and the relations between the two countries are desirable and satisfactory".

The Prime Minister of Iraq pointed out that the strengthening of the joint commission for the cooperation of the two countries is very effective in order to expand the cooperation and relations between Baghdad and Tehran, and it is necessary to hold its meetings continuously and regularly.
