Tehran, IRNA -- Iran's Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji has underscored that expansion of cooperation between Moscow and Tehran will help make international sanctions imposed on both countries ineffective.

The Iranian minister told reporters on Tuesday that the Ministry of Petroleum held different working groups to follow up the issues relating to banking, energy, transportation, health, economy, and other sectors, and that concurrent with the meetings, some Russian officials traveled to Iran to negotiate in this respect.

He further underlined that all agreements between the Russian and Iranian sides in the 16th joint economic commission are in fact the same issues agreed upon by presidents of both nations and that Moscow and Tehran have never been so close in the history of both countries.

The two sides are going to finalize agreements achieved in the 16th joint economic commission, Owji noted, adding that the level of bilateral cooperation will develop especially in the economy.

Russia hosts the 16th joint economic commission from October 30 to November 1. Alexander Novak, the deputy chairman of the Russian Government, and Owji are heading both countries' delegations at the event.

Representatives from the Ministry of Oil, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Road and Urban Development, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Sport and Youth, Ministry of Information and Communications Technology, as well as envoys from president's office, the Parliament, General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Supreme Council of the Free Trade-Industrial and Special Economic Zones, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the Central Bank of Iran, the National Development Fund of Iran, the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran, the Chamber of Commerce and Iran's business center in Russia are participating in the 16th joint economic commission to negotiate with their Russian counterparts and pave the way for preparing agreements.
