Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Emir of Qatar would pay an official visit to Tehran soon and the Iranian President would visit one of the Gulf countries in near future as well.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Khatibzadeh told reporters in the light of Syrian Bashar Assad's visit to Tehran, "We had been arranging Mr. Bashar Assad's visit to Tehran for a while. He announced his readiness for the trip and we were preparing for his visit. Yesterday, he arrived in Tehran with a high-ranking delegation. He held two meetings with Iran's President and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei".
"Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad accompanied Mr. Bashar Assad during this trip, and he held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart as well. Also, a trilateral meeting was held between Iranian and Syrian foreign ministers and Iran Minister of Transport and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi. They exchanged views on project, programs and agreements between both countries," he added.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Iranian spokesman noted, "Negotiations about lifting sanctions and reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have been continuing so far without a pause. Moreover, after a phone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the EU coordinator Enrique Mora's visit to Tehran will be paid in this week. It doesn't mean that he is travelling to Tehran with a new message. The messages between Iran and America are being conveyed constantly by EU and the coordinator of the talks. Furthermore, we hope that we will announce the results after these talks. Mora's visit indicates that we are following the talks in the best way despite anti-diplomacy measures taken by the United States Senate".
"If the US makes a necessary decision right now and compensates for what it has done and respects Iran's nation, our agreement will make a progress," he added.
When asked about the latest news about Iran and Saudi Arabia's talks, Khatibzadeh stated, "There is no new development in this field. If something new takes place, we will announce".
Regarding a surge in terrorist attacks in Afghanistan and Iran's measures to protect Iranian diplomatic places, Iranian spokesman declared, "Keeping Iranian diplomats and diplomatic places safe are important. Also, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian talked with Iran's ambassador to Afghanistan in the light of this issue. We are worried about Afghans' status. Unfortunately, we are witnessing a surge in extremism, and as we have already announced, we are ready to help Afghanistan's interim government counter terrorism".
With regard to the relations between Hamid Nouri and Ahmad Reza Jalali's case as some media claim, Iranian spokesman told reporters, "Jalali has been charged for a long time due to spying on Iran. We are sorry that some western countries and Zionist regime help him to commit his terrorist actions. There is no relation between these two cases. If so, the Swedish side wants to relate the cases to one another, and this issue makes us doubt. Also, Swedish court has not respected Mr. Nouri's rights and the court is not reliable. Sweden should return to the main path and know that their cases will not be neglected".
Elsewhere in his remarks, Khatibzadeh told reporters about releasing Iran's frozen assets, "I urge you to ask Central Bank about details of the issue and its process. What I can tell you is that we are not waiting for the third country to release the frozen assets. By the way, some third countries like the US deems that releasing the assets depends on the Vienna talks".
