Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that Tehran has frankly told the American side that they shouldn't cause obstruction or delay reaching an agreement in the Vienna talks, while indicating that diplomacy is still open.
Speaking at the first meeting of Foreign Economic Relations Coordination on Sunday, the foreign minister declared, "In case of the Vienna talks, there are problems between us and the American side. Although the agreement has been accepted to a large extent, the US suggested some demands which are in contradiction to some parts of the agreement".
"Unfortunately, the US officials are in the habit of imposing unilateral sanctions, and it has become a kind of sickness in the White House through which they want to meet their demands", he stated with referring to the sanctions.
The foreign minister stressed that Iran would stand for its red lines which have been announced before.
"US officials have been talking about the necessity of direct talks with Iran constantly, and we recognized that there is no benefit for us in these talks with Washington. They have not taken any measures regarding this issue yet to show their goodwill".
He added, "They can release the part of the blocked money of Iran as an example of showing their goodwill, and if US President Joe Biden, who speaks of goodwill all the time, wants to show that, he should lift one of the sanctions".
Meanwhile, the foreign minister noted that the path of diplomacy is still open.
The top diplomat stated, "Iranian people should know that we continue to reach a long-lasting agreement to lift the sanctions. Of course, whatever is important in this process is relying on our capability, and use it in the best proper way."
"Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also stressed that the attention should not be paid only on Vienna talks, so all bodies should make efforts to lift the sanctions," he added.
Regarding Russia-Ukraine war, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated, "Iran has announced its opposition to the Ukraine war through its top diplomats. We are not only opposed to the war, but also we are opposed to the imposing unilateral sanctions against Moscow. I had a telephone conversation with Ukraine foreign minister ahead of Moscow trip, and conveyed his message to Russian officials; Ukrainians wanted to stop the war as well. We do not consider the war as a political solution; the solution is dialogue and we make our efforts in this way. Of course, in addition to this issue, Ukraine war has been rooted in NATO and America's provocation".
