On December 13, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian at the initiative of the Iranian side.

The ministers focused on the developments around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear programme in the context of the Vienna talks, which resumed on November 29. They reaffirmed their countries' resolve to revive the nuclear deal in its initial balanced format approved by the UN Security Council. They pointed out that it is the only correct way to ensure the rights and interest of all parties to the comprehensive agreements.

The ministers also discussed several current issues on the bilateral and regional agenda.
