Strengthening defense, offence power on Iranian agenda: Top commander

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, May 23, IRNA -- Iran's Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major-General Mohammad Baqeri said in a statement on Sunday on the anniversary of Liberation of Khorramshahr that the permanent component of Iran's armed forces agenda is strengthening defensive, offensive and deterrent power.

Baqeri said that Liberation of Khorramshahr was a turning point in Iran's shining improvement against enduring conspiracies of the global arrogance, since the eight-year war until the current holy defense in proxy wars and the fight against terrorism.

The Liberation of Khorramshahr refers to the Iranian recapture of the city of Khorramshahr on May 24, 1982, during the Iran–Iraq War. The city had been captured by the Iraqis earlier in the war on October 26, 1980, shortly after the Iraqi invasion of Iran.

He underlined that the operation 'Beyt al-Muqaddas' that led to liberation of Khorramshah would shine eternally in the history of Iran and would be a source respect and eloquence for Iranians and their vigilance against conspiracies of the enemies.

He also referred to the coincidence of anniversary of the event with the struggle of resistance forces in the Gaza Strip against the crimes of the child-killing Israeli regime and commemorated Martyr General Qasem Soleimani and Martyr General Ali Sayyad Shirazi.

He ensured all the people of Iran that under the aegis of the Supreme Leader and Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iran's armed forces are prepared to stand firmly against any threat against Iran's independence, territorial integrity and national security.
