Tehran (ISNA) - Stating that enemies are seeking to undermine unity in our society through different stories, Iran's President said, "Publishing a classified recording by the filthiest programme and a TV channel that is anti-Islam and anti-Iran sponsored by the Saudi Arabia was done with the goal of undermining unity in our society and sowing discord".

Speaking on Wednesday in a cabinet session, President Hassan Rouhani said, "Today, the Zionist Regime, regional reactionaries and the United States are angry about Iran's achievements, because all the plots that they had attempted to hatch against our country for four years was gone".

"Today, the P4+1 and even the Americans themselves have understood that they have no choice but to surrender to international law and regulations and Iran's rightfulness. Stealing a recording and publishing it, and that why it has been published in this critical juncture is something that needs to be closely looked into."

"This recording was published by those who are against Iran, the people of Iran and the interests of our country exactly at the time when we are making the best achievements in Vienna in order to sow discord in our country," he said.

The President also went on to state, "Trump was a mercenary of the Zionist Regime and all his actions were provoked by the Zionists," adding, "Of course, the previous US presidents were friends with the Zionists, but were not mercenaries".

"Trump acted completely based on the provocations of the Zionists in the case of withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), transferring the Zionist Regime's capital to al-Quds and withdrawing from some international organisations," he said.

"The martyrdom of General Soleimani was directed by the Zionists, even though Trump was the commander and killer," said Dr. Rouhani.

He continued, "Martyr Soleimani devoted his entire life in the interest of regional peace and stability. There were days when nobody dared to enter the field of fighting the ISIL, but General Soleimani was the only person who dared to go to Karbala, Najaf, Baghdad and the Northern Iraq and foiled the plots of the Zionists and the Americans".

We should not forget what great men did in critical junctures, said Rouhani, adding, "Today, not only in Iran, but also in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen we are seeing the effects of Martyr Soleimani's efforts".

The President also said, "It is a great honour for our country that our officials are able to express their opinions freely".

Stating that some of the issues discussed in the recording are not the government and President's views, he said, "Any minister or official might have opinions that they might like to stay secret for the future".

"The field and diplomacy are not against each other," he said, stating, "I say this as a person who's life experience has proved it to him".

"All complex foreign policy issues and on the defence field are discussed and decided in the Supreme National Security Council, and finally the decisions are approved by the Supreme Leader," he said.

Dr. Rouhani also went on to say, "Martyr Soleimani was a smart and very humble person, and without exaggeration, was our best advisor in foreign policy, at least in regional affairs".

He continued, "We respect all the armed forces of the country, including the Army, the IRGC, the Basij and the Police, and we thank them for maintaining security".

He said, "Martyr Soleimani also did diplomatic work. He was respected by all of us as an intelligent, sincere, selfless and devoted figure in all stages".

President Rouhani also stated, "There is no gap between the government and the armed forces, and everyone is working within the framework of the Constitution".

Stating that we are proud of the diplomatic staff who work hard for the country's dignity, he said, "Let us not allow the enemy to sow discord in the country by overstating issues".

He continued, "I urge everyone to be patient and exercise restraint regarding the release of the confidential recording so that we can untie the knot," stating that our country will not be divided as the enemies wish.
