Tehran (ISNA) - Emphasizing that maintaining security in the border areas of Islamic Iran is a priority, and that Iran does not accept any disturbance in its security, the President called on the Republic of Azerbaijan as a brother country and Armenia as a neighbour to pay special attention to this point.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Hassan Rouhani said, "One of my emphases in talks with senior officials of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan was that we emphasize the preservation of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, but we are very sorry for the war itself and must end because no problem can be solved through fire and blood, and we must look for other ways, and we are ready for that".
The President emphasized, "Iran also does not allow some to bring terrorists, whom we have fought for many years in Syria, to our border points under any pretext. This is unacceptable and has been explicitly told to the officials of the neighbouring countries".
Dr. Rouhani also warned against turning the war between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan into a regional war and said, "We must be careful that this war does not turn into a regional war and those who pour gasoline on this war should pay attention that its continuation is not in the interest of any country and this war must end through political ways".
The President emphasized, "Occupation is not acceptable for us and war is not either, and we hope that with the efforts that are being made, stability will return to this region".
In another part of his speech, the President said that we are nearing Arba'een and added, "The purpose of all the events that took place around Ashura was to create awareness and awakening and show the way to the people, as we have seen that from Ashura until Arba'een, the first sparks of awakening were struck in the people and 'Yalsarat Al-Hussein' became the slogan of the people".
Dr. Rouhani added, "God wanted Arba'een to survive like Ashura and the rituals of Hajj, and the people of our country participated in the Arba'een procession every year to keep this day alive and the memory of the martyrs of Karbala, but this year, understanding the special conditions prevailing in the world because of the outbreak of coronavirus, they perform their mourning without any traditional religious rituals".
The President added, "Our people in the past years were preparing themselves with love and enthusiasm from weeks and months ago, and this year they wanted to participate in that procession, but here is a combination of wisdom and love".
In the last part of his speech, Dr. Rouhani emphasized the importance of strict observance of health protocols by all members of society, and said that observing health regulations is a national, legal, intellectual and religious duty.
