Tehran (ISNA) - Head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharazi noted Iran's view toward relations with Beijing is strategic and comprehensive.
In a meeting with China's ambassador to Iran, Chang Hua, Kharazi said that cooperation between Iran and china is less than expected which is due to US sanctions against Tehran.
Appreciating china's positions regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the official said, "Unfortunately, US' unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal has jeopardized it and Iran has no way but reducing nuclear commitments to preserve its interests".
Pointing to thousands of years of relations between Iran and China, Kharazi noted that the relations are of great importance in the current situation and insisted on the need of scientific and academic exchanges between the two coutnries.
Answering a question by the Chinese ambassador regarding Iran's regional relations, Kharazi said, "Iran has always been seeking peaceful ties with regional countries and welcomes any step to resolve disagreements".
"Some of the regional disagreements come from reliance to western powers, especially US by some countries," he added.
Stressing on Iran's position to provide regional security by regional states, he said, "Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE) initiative which is introduced by Iran is in line with the purpose".
Regional security is not important for US and Washington is seeking its own interests, he said, "US plunders Syrian oil, clearly interferes in Iraq and has failed to bring security to Afghanistan despite 18 years of its presence there".
Pointing to US's military presence in the region, the official said, "The US policies are against Iran's pro-independence policy".
Chang Hua, for his part, stressed that Iran-Chin ties are strategic and mutual confidence is growing between the two sides.
"China is against US' expansionistic policies," he added.
He also stressed on Beijing's support for implementation and continuation of JCPO, saying, "Iran is an important state in the Silk Road and China considers it as an important partner in the Belt and Road initiative".
