Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and his British counterpart Jeremy Hunt held a phone call, following the seizure of oil tankers in Gibraltar and Hormuz strait.
Announcing his phone call with Zarif on twitter, Jeremy Hunt insisted that British shipping "must and will be protected".
"This has to be about actions not words if we are to find a way through," he said.
According to Iran's Foreign Ministry, during the phone call Zarif reiterated that unlike the UK's unlawful seizure of the vessel carrying Iran's oil, Iran's move was carried out upon the request of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran given the vessel's violation of regulations.
Zarif noted that the case must be pursued through judicial and legal channels.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of finding lawful solutions and avoiding heightened tensions.
