Iran's satellite launches 'no cover for another activity': Min

Tehran, April 10, IRNA -- Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Jahromi said Tehran's satellite launches are not a cover for other missile programs.
"The rockets which have currently been developed in Iran for carrying satellites are not something that are a cover for another kind of rocket activity," he said in an interview on the sidelines of a conference in Geneva.
Azari Jahromi added that Iran's satellite program is intended for peaceful purposes such as helping manage water resources and protect the environment. The Islamic Republic has been hit by devastating flooding since mid-March that has killed at least 70 people and inundated some 1,900 communities.
The Iranian minister, who is taking part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Switzerland, stressed that it would press ahead with the launch of three satellites into orbit this year despite the US curbs and pressures.
Iran launched one communicational satellite last year but they failed to be placed into orbit. Tehran said it would continue with its satellite program in 2019.
