Iran, Iraq explore ways to boost bilateral trade

Tehran, April 7, IRNA -- Governor of Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Abdolnaser Hemmati and Iraqi Finance Minister Fuad Hussein, in a meeting in Tehran on Sunday, discussed ways to boost bilateral trade and to balance exports and imports between the two countries.
The two officials also talked on ways in which Iraq could pay its debts to Iran.
Speaking to reporters, the CBI governor said that the volume of trade between the two countries is in a satisfactory condition and given the existing capacities, Iran and Iraq can create balance between bilateral exports and imports.
Hemmati said that Iran and Iraq do banking interactions in Iraqi Dirham which is key to enhancement of banking relations between the two neighboring countries.
He underlined the need to remove obstacles on the way of activities of Iranian banks in Iraq and vice versa.
The Iraqi minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction over the growing trade and political relations between Tehran and Baghdad.
Hussein said that balancing trade would benefit the interests of both countries.
