Russian defense ministry delegation meets Iranian army officials

Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi and Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri held separate meetings with deputy chief of the Russian Army General Staff, Vice-Admiral Igor Osipov on Tuesday.

Osipov has traveled to Iran as the head of a delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry to take part in a second session of the Russian-Iranian working group for the implementation of a bilateral agreement on military cooperation.

During the meeting with Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, the two sides discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest.

In the meeting with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, General Osipov presented a report about the process of forming joint military commission between the two countries to Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.

Mentioning the historical relations between Iran and Russia, Osipov insisted on suitable areas for joint cooperation.

Noting the current sensitive situation of the region and the world, General Bagheri insisted on the need for deepening ties between Iran and Russia's armed forces in fighting terrorism, saying, "The two armed forces' victory in fighting terrorism in Syria indicates Iran and Russia's will and capacities to overcome the current threats".
