Russia reiterates support for JCPOA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Moscow, Oct 23, IRNA -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday reiterated his country's support for Iran nuclear deal known as JCPOA, saying that Russia considers US withdrawal from the deal the US a big mistake.

Responding to a question whether Syria, Iran and Korean Peninsula were discussed during the meeting with US National Security Advisor John Bolton, he said that the US and Russia do not hold talks in this form, but the issues are on the two countries' agenda.

Lavrov further noted that there is a channel for removing tensions between Russia and the US over Syria, adding that his country is seeking ways for effectively settling Syrian crisis.

At the first stage, Syrian refugees should return home so that grounds would be prepared for solving Syrian crisis and eliminating remaining terrorists, he said.

The Russian top diplomat pointed out that Russia is ready to coordinate with all countries with a view to achieving a political settlement of the crisis in Syria. However, Washington does not show the readiness required for comprehensive cooperation with Moscow on this issue, despite the Russian willingness to strengthen this cooperation.

Russia considers US withdrawal from the deal the US a big mistake, Lavrov said, noting that remaining parties in the JCPOA are engaged in intensive talks in a bid to prevent adverse impacts of the US withdrawal from the JCPOA and continue doing business with Iran.
