Turkey not to follow US in sanctioning Iran: Turkish FM

Ankara, Sept 27, IRNA -- Turkey will not stand alongside the US to impose sanctions on Iran, said the foreign minister of Turkey.
'Turkey will not support any sanctions and will keep its trade with Iran, Russia and other countries; Turkey is an independent country and has sovereignty,' Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told reporters following the trilateral meeting with Iran and Russia's foreign ministers, respectively Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Sergei Lavrov in New York on the sidelines of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.
'Turkey will continue commerce with Iran, regardless ogf the US sanctions.'
'We are committed only to the sanctions decided by the UN and will not accept any other sanctions.'
Regarding the meeting on Idlib, he said that the three countries stressed the implementation of Sochi agreement and believe that the chance should be used to gather together the opposition groups in Syria and accelerate the peace process.
'In the coming days, formation of the committee of Syrian constitution should be the most important step because the list of members of the committee was finalized a while ago,' said Çavuşoğlu.
He also said that Turkey will continue to counter terrorism.
