Tehran (ISNA) – Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi has commemorated the 30th anniversary of the downing of an Iranian civilian plane by the US Navy over Persian Gulf waters, saying the nation would never forget the "terrible" crime committed by Americans.

In the 30th anniversary of US' attack against Iran's Airbus passenger plane on 3 July 1988, Qassemi released a statement.

Here is the full text of his statement:

Today is the 30th anniversary of American warship USS Vincennes' terrible felony aimed at Islamic Republic of Iran's Airbus passenger plane, which led to martyrdom of 290 passengers and crew members, including 66 innocent children.

After all these years from the terrible tragedy and the brutal operation, the sorrow of this cruelty is still fresh and remains as a stigma on US' forehead which is not afraid of committing flagrant violation of international principles, laws and norms. And to prove this claim, it's enough to remember that not only the violator administration didn't express any regret, but decorated the commander of the cruiser with a badge of courage.

Reviewing US' behavior towards people of Iran and other states of the world clearly shows that it has always been a pioneer in conducting inhuman actions aimed at its evil interests and purposes and human rights are only an excuse for them to bully others and advance their illegitimate interests.

Today in the anniversary of the martyrdom of our dear compatriots, we hail their free souls and express our sympathy to their families, paying tribute to the unjustifiably taken souls of them.

Undoubtedly, the US' brutal felony is always stocked in minds of our great and brave nation and it will never be forgotten.
