Iran Leader: Trump's words empty, absurd
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 9, IRNA -- US President Donald Trump's words were empty and absurd; he told lies several times, said Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday.
'Trump threatened the Islamic Establishment and Iranian people that he will do this and he will do that. I say on behalf of the people of Iran: Mr. Trump, you are talking nonsense!' Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with the Iranian teachers and academics held on the occasion of Teacher's Week on Wednesday.
'We have insisted that the issue between Iran and US is not a nuclear one, but there were parties saying 'No, this is not the case,' he said.
Now you can see; we accepted the JCPOA, but the enmities are still in place,' the Leader said, referring to the Iran nuclear deal, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
'Now, they are focusing on the missile program and Iran's presence in the region; if we give in to their requests, they will raise another issue,' Ayatollah Khamenei said.
'The reason behind US opposition against the establishment in Iran is that they want to maintain an absolute domination over the country,' he said.
'But the Islamic Revolution has cut their hands,' he added.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution went on to say that Iran had expected such behavior on the part the US.
What has happened is not contrary to what we expected. Other US presidents used to display such behaviors too, but in different ways, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
He said that despite all such behaviors by the United States the Iranian people are 'still standing forcefully.'
'But they (former US presidents) are dead men with their bones decayed. This man will also die and will turn into earth with his flesh eaten by ants and snakes,' he said, referring to President Trump.
'And the Islamic Republic will prevail,' he added.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution also said that the European parties of the Iran nuclear deal are not reliable, either.
'I have no trust in these countries, either,' he said referring to the European signatories of the nuclear accord, cautioning 'Do not trust them.'
Ayatollah Khamenei urged the Iranian officials to ask for practical guarantees before entering any deals with the Europeans.
'In the absence of practical guarantee, they (Europeans) also will do what US did,' he reiterated.
'If you cannot make them provide you with practical guarantees, maintaining the JCPOA will not be possible,' the Leader said.
