Iran to develop cooperation with IAEA: President

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA -- Iranian President said that Islamic Republic is committed to development of long-term cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

President Hassan Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano.

The Iranian President stressed the necessity for protecting the IAEA's neutrality and independence.

He also hailed the UN nuclear watchdog's constructive role in the implementation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), adding that Islamic Republic is ready to develop cooperation with the IAEA based on the UN nuclear watchdog rules, safeguard and the nuclear deal.

The President pointed to Iran's full compliance with IAEA and voiced hope that the UN nuclear watchdog declares the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program.

Iran expects the IAEA's support, he said in a reference to the UN nuclear watchdog's support for countries that have adhered to this international organization's rules and safeguards.

No country is authorized to deal with the multilateral agreements based on its desire, the President said in a reference to the US rhetoric against Iran's nuclear deal.

'Iran will not be the first country that will exit the JCPOA and it will be committed to it until benefitting from it,' President Rouhani said.

IAEA is the only source that is authorized to confirm Iran's compliance with the JCPOA, the Iranian president added.

President Rouhani called for widespread global cooperation to prevent sabotage of Iran nuclear deal.

The IAEA chief arrived in Tehran late on Saturday to confer with top Iranian officials, including President Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Analysts believe that Amano's day-long visit to Tehran is very important regarding the recent dispute began by the US President Donald Trump over the July 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Trump in his October 13 speech took a new strategy on Iran and decertified Iran's commitments to the international deal, the commitment which has already been reaffirmed by the IAEA eight times.
