President Rouhani: JCPOA improves Iran's interaction with world

New York, Sep 20, IRNA -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined here on Tuesday that the July 2015 nuclear deal created a condition for better interaction between Iran and the region, the EU and other world countries.
'The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an agreement reached after years of endeavors made by the diplomats,' Rouhani said in a meeting held in New York with senior members of the American media.
The JCPOA is also an agreement that was ultimately approved within the Resolution 2231 by the UN Security Council, Rouhani added.
The issue of the JCPOA is sometimes different from what the media report, the Iranian President said, adding the international deal is related to the issue of non-proliferation.
JCPOA is an agreement between the seven countries (Iran, the US, the UK, France, Russia, China and Germany), Rouhani noted, adding it has been reached by considerable efforts made by most of the parties and the support extended from many world countries.
The only body which can supervise the deal is the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as its inspectors report on the issue quarterly, President Rouhani said.
He reiterated that no other source is eligible to talk about whether Iran has been loyal to its commitments or not.
The Iranian president went on to say that the IAEA has confirmed in its seven reports on Iran that the country has been faithful, so if the US violates the international agreement, it has to pay for it and bear the responsibility for its measure.
If the US violates the JCPOA, it will prove that it is a country no one can trust, Rouhani stressed.
'Whatever happens in case of the JCPOA, Iran will be the winner,' he added, stressing that Iran is ready for any situation.
The US President Donald Trump, describing the landmark international deal between Tehran and the major world powers as 'disastrous', has already threatened to kill the deal.
Turning to the issue of Yemen, Rouhani described the Saudi and its allies' measure to kill the innocent Yemeni people as wrong and 'inexcusable', and said their measures are against the international regulations.
The Iranian president condemned the US' double-standard policies on the human rights and weapons of mass destruction, and stressed that aggression in Yemen should come to a halt, the humanitarian aid should be sent to that country and the conditions should be prepared for holding the Yemeni-Yemeni talks.
Saudi Arabia with the help of nine other Arab countries, except Oman, has been mounting massive attacks on Yemen since March 26, 2015, to bring back to power the resigned Yemeni president and prevent the Yemeni revolutionary forces from taking power. Since then, thousands of Yemenis, mostly women and children and elderlies, have been killed by Riyadh's fatal attacks against the country.
Rouhani arrived in New York's JFK Airport on Sunday, Sep 17, to attend and address the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
