Iran says ready to respond US nuclear deal violations

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Sep 11, IRNA -- Should Washington withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran's Foreign Ministry Headquarters to Monitor the Implementation of the agreement would be the one to decide about the issue, senior diplomat said here on Monday.

'Iran will never be the initiator of violating the nuclear deal, [known also as theJoint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)],' spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi said in Tehran at his weekly press briefing.

Iran will duly react to violation of the JCPOA by any countries involved in the deal, stressed Qasemi adding 'Iran will not tolerate violation of the deal by other parties.'

The US President Donald Trump, describing the landmark international deal between Tehran and the major world powers as 'disastrous', has threatened to kill the deal.

The JCPOA will be successful if all sides remain to be faithful to their commitments, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

'If any country fails to fulfill its commitments…it must pay a heavy price for the disloyalty,' Qasemi said.

He went on to say that any measure taken in contradiction to the content of the international deal will be followed up at the Headquarters to Monitor Implementation of the deal.

Iran has put in place necessary mechanisms to strongly respond possible measures by other parties against the JCPOA, Qasemi stressed.

'JCPOA is not a mutual agreement but a multilateral one being approved by the United Nations through the Resolution 2231,' he added.

Referring to US baseless terrorist accusations Qasemi said 'This is not a new issue, particularly in the current US administration.'

The US officials are treating the issue of terrorism as a commodity in order to use it as a political bargaining chip, said the senior diplomat.

Iran is falsely accused of supporting terrorists while the country is a pioneer in counter-terrorism actions and has paid a heavy price to fight the phenomenon, Qasemi added.
