Iran can resume 20%-enrichment in 5 days: Official
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Aug 22, IRNA -- Iran is capable of resuming twenty-percent enrichment activities in just five days in the country's Fordo nuclear facility, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said.
Salehi, in remarks released on Tuesday, pointed to President Hassan Rouhani's recent warnings against Washington's breach of Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and that it is possible for Iran to resume its nuclear program.
The warnings by President Rouhani are not baseless rather they have been issued based on available data, he said.
We managed to stabilize the nuclear facility in Fordo under the JCPOA in a way that we are able to resume activities in the plant in five days, he said.
'Preserving the Fordo facility is a point of strength of the deal,' he said.
Any violation of the JCPOA is tantamount to a breach of the international political logic, the AEOI chief added.
'Iran's first priority is preserving the nuclear deal, but not at any price,' Salehi said.
Iran is still involved in developing its nuclear know-how and finding its applications in different fields, incluing agriculture, industry and healthcare, he said.
Two nuclear power plants are being constructed by Russia in Bushehr, he said.
We have also taken big strides to develop nuclear propulsion systems, he said.
He went on to say that AEOI presented its first report on nuclear propulsion systems and a more detailed report is expected to be released soon.
