Diplomat: JCPOA converts sanctions into opportunities
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Moscow, May 17, IRNA -- Iran's professional diplomatic team changed sanctions into one of the best cooperation opportunities through marathon negotiations with major world powers, said Iran's General Consul in Kazan, Tatarstan on Wednesday.
'Iranian diplomacy changed one of the most important challenges in the third millennium into one of the best opportunities for cooperatiion with the world, particularly with Russia,' said Ali Beman Eghbali Zarch while referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The historical nuclear agreement was inked between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in July 2015.
Based on the agreement Iran accepted to curb its nuclear program in return for sanctions relief.
In his speech at the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University, he also referred to unclear game rules, disorder and chaos in the international arena, distinguished role of non-governmental organizations, difficulty in grabbing a correct analysis of the world developments, lack of clear solutions to the current crisis, new emerging powers, and increasing price of making mistakes in foreign politics as the most important challenges and features of the international relations.
Some solutions to the challenges are based on regional bilateral and multilateral cooperation expansion, making reforms in the United Nations' structure and holding cultural dialogues, added the Iranian diplomat.
Eghbali Zarch described Iran's elections as being based on the direct votes of its people and forecasting that the upcoming presidential election would see a high turnout.
The 12th Iranian presidential election will be held simultaneously in Iran and abroad on May 19, along with local elections of the Islamic City and Village Councils as well as Parliamentary mid-term election for some of the constituencies.
