Araqchi outlines JCPOA achievements for Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Jan 15, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry deputy for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi outlined the achievements of Iran's nuclear deal with six world powers and said it turned Iran from being "a menace to peace" into a country with a decisive role in world arena.

Talking to reporters on Sunday on the threshold of the first anniversary of the implementation day of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said one major achievement of the deal was to present a new picture of Iran to the world.

He said during the past twelve months since the implementation of the deal, Iran has turned from a country which many tried to illustrate as a threat into a nation whose role in the settlement of the Syrian conflict is highlighted by the United Nations Security Council.

He said that during the course of past year Iran had to continuously deal with the US disloyalties, sabotage and the policy of calculated delay.

Of course, the senior Iranian JCPOA negotiator stressed, nothing else was expected from the US in this regard.

Just as Iran had to confront the hostile policies of the Western countries which resulted in prolonged process of negotiations for over two years, it had to face disloyalties and animosities after the JCPOA as well.

Now one year after the implementation day of the nuclear deal, he added, the country is in a situation to review and assess its achievements despite the obstacles to use them as the basis for better performance in areas opened in the post-JCPOA era.
