Stockpiling additional heavy water in another country not violation of national sovereignty
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Dec 31, IRNA -- A member of Majlis (Parliament) said that stockpiling the country's additional heavy water in other states does not violate Iran's national soverignty.
Mojtaba Zolnouri, chairman of Majlis Nuclear Committee, made the remark while referring to Iran's production of 70 tons of heavy water in seven months.
'Iran is well capable of producing heavy water which is used for different purposes,' Zolnouri said, adding the process of production has been neither weakened nor stopped after the July 2015 deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
'Iran has not lost its capability,' the parliamentarian stressed, adding the JCPOA has not only had any adverse impact on heavy water production in Iran, but also created the proper atmosphere for the country to enter the global market.'
The amount of heavy water produced in Iran is more than of what the country needs, so Iran can merchandise the additional amount of it, he underlined.
Furthermore, he said, Iran could join the world group of sellers of nuclear products.
He concluded that Iran keeps its additional heavy water in the third country and export its products from there, but this does not reject Iran's ownership over its products.
