Senior clerics: ISA extension is clear violation of JCPOA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 2, IRNA -- Friday Prayers leaders nationwide referred to the US latest anti-Iran act as the clear violation of the landmark nuclear deal signed between Tehran and the world six major powers in 2015, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

They said during the nuclear talks, the US officials exploited goodwill of the Iranian side.

The US Senate on December 1st unanimously voted for extension of the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for another 10 years.

ISA, a law initially adopted in 1996 by the US on the baseless allegation that Iran peaceful nuclear energy program is of non-civilian in nature, was to be expired by the end of 2016. To become an anti-Iran Act for another decade, the US Senate's approval now needs the signature of the US President Barack Obama.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei had already made it clear that extension of an expired sanction is no different from imposing new sanctions, while the US has undertaken not to impose fresh sanctions on Iran in the context of the landmark nuclear deal struck on July 14, 2015.

Commenting on the ISA extension by the US Senate, the Friday Prayers leaders said in their sermons today that extending its sanctions against Iran for another ten years, the US has practically stepped out of the JCPOA while Iran has had no negligence of its JOPOA commitments.

They have also urged Iranian authorities to "show a proper response" to the JCPOA violation by the US.
