Iran free to counter betrayals of JCPOA, says Velayati

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 25, IRNA -- We feel free to give a proportionate response to betrayals by P5+1 country, particularly the United States, regarding implementation of the JCPOA, says Ali-Akbar Velayati.

'Our hands are not tied to give a proportionate answer,' the chairman of Iran's Strategic Research Center told reporters on Monday following his visit with Nasir Khan Janjua, Pakistan's Advisor to Prime Minister on National Security.

'Some of the P5+1 countries, like Russia, have often criticized the US deceitfulness,' Velayati said.

'But they (the US officials) have managed to deceive other members into accepting that Iran is trying to manipulate its peaceful nuclear program and is embarking on wrong activities,' he said.

'But at the end it was revealed to be a lie,' the member of the committee monitoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action said.

It is by itself a progress that some P5+1 members have come to realize that Washington is dishonest, Velayati said.

We should try to uncover the deception by the US on the international scene, and persuade other P5+1 members what Washington is saying is wrong, he said.

'We should persuade others to be committed to their JCPOA responsibilities,' he said.
Velayati also described as positive and constructive his talks with Nasir Khan Janjua, saying that ties between Iran and Pakistan remain to be vital and strategic as the two nations have an array of commonalities.

'If we want to promote resistance economy apparently we should develop cooperation with our neighbors especially those which wield good potential in agriculture, industry, trade and transit routes,' he said.
