TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iran's Damavand Destroyer was equipped with chaff, said Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habobollah Sayyari.

Chaff is radar countermeasure in which aircraft or other targets spread a cloud of small, thin pieces of aluminium, metallized glass fiber or plastic, which either appears as a cluster of primary targets on radar screens or swamps the screen with multiple returns.

Systems installed on a vessel at the beginning would be installed on other ones as well after passing the test time, because they are regarded as local manufacturing.

He said that Iran produces, test and operationally tests a product and it would be installed on other vessels when it passes all phases behind.

The commander said that new equipment installed on Jamaran Destroyer last year had been installed on other destroyers and missile-launching vessels as well.

Sayyari continued that chaff has been installed on all destroyers and missile launchers, including Damavand Destroyer.
