Iran to stage military drills

TEHRAN (ISNA)- The Navy Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran said Iran plans to organize regional and extra-regional joint exercises this year.
"This year we hope to organize joint military exercises with some regional countries and even some extra-regional countries," Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.
Admiral Sayyari went on to say, "We have planned for this year several exercises in specialized areas, such as the launch of a ballistic type sea-surface missiles and sea-sea and commando type operations and electronic warfare, all representing 20 specific exercises which will be presented as part of military maneuvers dubbed Velayat, to be held in winter 2016. "
He added: "The units of the Iranian naval forces have guaranteed security of sea lanes as well as Iranian boats in free and international waters."
